Bluesky Search

Bluesky has a powerful built-in search that lets you find posts, users, and conversations across the network. Whether you're looking for a specific post, tracking a hashtag, or exploring what someone has shared, Bluesky search gives you the tools to find it.

What Can You Search For on Bluesky?

Search posts by keyword

Find posts containing specific words or exact phrases. Bluesky indexes the full text of every post, including image alt text, so you can search for virtually anything.

"open source"

Wrap phrases in quotes for exact matching. Without quotes, Bluesky finds posts containing all the words in any order.

Search posts by user

Look up all posts published by a specific account, or find posts that mention a particular user. Great for browsing someone's post history or tracking conversations.

from:jay.bsky.team

Use from:username for posts by a user. Use @username or mentions:me to find mentions.

Search by hashtag

Discover posts tagged with specific hashtags. Hashtags on Bluesky work the same way you'd expect -- prefix any term with # to search for it as a tag.

#technology

Hashtag search finds posts where the author explicitly tagged their post, not just posts containing the word.

Search by date range

Narrow your search results to a specific time period. Perfect for finding posts about events, announcements, or discussions from a particular date.

since:2024-06-01 until:2024-06-30

Dates use YYYY-MM-DD format. You can combine since: and until: with any other search filters.

Search by language

Filter results to posts written in a specific language. Bluesky automatically detects the language of each post, so you can focus on content you can actually read.

lang:en "bluesky"

Use standard two-letter ISO language codes: en for English, ja for Japanese, de for German, etc.

Search by link or domain

Find posts that share links from a specific website or that contain a particular URL. Useful for tracking how content from a site is being discussed on Bluesky.

domain:github.com

Use domain: for all links from a site, or paste a full URL to find posts sharing that exact link.

Tips for Better Search Results

  • You can combine any search filters together. For example, from:jay.bsky.team #bluesky since:2024-01-01 finds posts by a specific user with a specific hashtag from 2024 onwards.

  • Bluesky search results prioritize accounts you follow, so logging in gives you more personalized results.

  • Posts with images are searchable by their alt text. If someone described an image well, you can find it through search.

  • Use from:me to search through your own post history -- great for finding something you posted before.

  • Bluesky search works even if you're not logged in, though you'll get more customized results when authenticated.
